How to Setup Email in OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)

These instructions are intended specifically for setting up a new email account on mac Mail under OS X 10.11.1 (El Capitan). For help with general email account settings, see How To Setup Your Email Client (generic).

Create the Account

Launch Mail by clicking on its icon in the dock. Under the Mail menu, select Add Account. On the Choose a Mail account provider… screen, select the circle button next to Other Mail Account and click the Continue button.


 

On the Add a Mail Account screen, enter your name, the email address and the email account’s password.

You will need to ensure that all the fields are completed. Some of these fields may not be required. Please replace [email protected] with your actual email address.

Mail Server Outgoing Mail Server
Account Type: IMAP
Hostname: mail.bhmhosting.com Hostname: mail.bhmhosting.com
Port: 993 Port: 465
Username: Full Email Address Username: Full Email Address
Password: Your Password Password: Your Password

 

Manual Outgoing Server Configuration

If you click Next and the account settings are not auto-discovered, Mail may prompt you to enter the Outgoing Mail Server Info manually. If that’s the case, please use the information provided above in the previous step. Full email address are always required as the “user name.”

Ensure that the box next to Mail is checked and then click on Done to complete the setup. Congratulations! You’re now ready to start using the Mail app with Backhouse Media’s server.
